“The Softest of Bodies” & more: 3D animations by Travis Ragsdale

Travis Ragsdale is a motion designer specialized in motion graphics and animation. He is the coowner of Dyad Ventures, a marketing, branding and production agency in Dallas, Texas.

Travis, where do you get your inspiration?

I usually get inspiration for the style/look of the designs from other artists or colors that I see on photography etc. but as far as the overall ideas behind the videos, I usually just get into weird conversations with my coworkers & friends and we end up coming up with stuff that seems like it would get a specific reaction out of people and that’s kind of what I’m always aiming for.

Which is the reletioship and influence beetween your cultural backgorund (country, studies, etc.) and your artworks?

Not exactly sure on this one, I don’t really have a super influential culture that I’ve been brought up in or anything like that but I guess never having gone to school and starting animation from an early age (12 years old) I just kind of fell in love with it and everything evolved from there.

Have you encountered any difficulties when you first started your art/freelance career?

I found that when I began doing client work a lot I was losing my mind because I wasn’t able to express my own creativity in the work I was doing. Over time I started doing my own passion projects on the side and it just kind of evolved into a hobby of mine. And now I’m finally beginning to bring that style to my clients and implement this type of work into the content I create for them!

What are you much focused in?

Motion graphics and design.

Over these years, what is the most important thing you have learnt from your profession?

Save often.

Do you think that a creative job is just creativity or it’s discipline too?

Being creative involves a lot of discipline if you want to make it into a career and not just a hobby. You have to get up early or stay up late, really whatever it takes to make sure you meet deadlines and keep outdoing your past work.

Are you currently work on new projects?

Yes! I am working on a few things at the moment. Some projects with TrippStudio (@tripp.studio) here in Dallas having to do with photography and 3D compositing. Stay tuned to their channel for some amazing content. I’m also in the preliminary stages on some fashion projects with a designer in NYC. But one that I am most excited about is the new advertising content I am going for an app client of mine, Mo-de.
