Mixing the past, the present and the future, Stéphane Massa-Bidal created his art works that are sophisticated examples of “Retrofuturism”. Just adding Helvetica quotes, the graphic designer is able to generate a juxtaposition in which past and present, modern and old are capable of evoking a new dimension.
The word retrofuturism, combines more recent ideas of nostalgia and retro with older traditions of futurism. An early use of the term was in the title of T. R. Hinchcliffe‘s Pelican book Retro-futurism (Penguin, 1967). A recent neologism, the actual term retrofuturism was used by American Lloyd Dunn in 1983, according to fringe art magazine Retrofuturism, which was published between 1988 and 1993.
Helvetica or Neue Haas Grotesk is a widely used sans-serif typeface developed in 1957 by Swiss typeface designer Max Miedinger with input from Eduard Hoffmann.
